Conventional tests usually cover a small amount of the material since they assess perhaps 2 years' work in say, 2 hours. With short tests at the end of each unit, even if the tests take only 20 mins each, it is likely that more material can be covered over a two year period. A list of revision points can also be supplied for each test which is likely to be short and less intimidating than one for one long examination. Even if a student has a bad day, it is less likely to affect her overall performance than is the case with the single end of course examination.
